Be a Master of Craps – Pointers and Techniques: The Past of Craps
Be cunning, play cunning, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps evolved from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. A few think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
